Did we think reading, following links, and downloading files to be all that we do when we get on the internet? We could think that we are only reading articles or pages. But what actually happens is really not only just that. We also are giving up our data to other computers on the internet.

Let’s suppose we are doing an account signup online, or we want to signup for a free e-mail service, a social networking, almost everything that needs confirmation. In order to do that, we are required to provide a number of data that are personal and sensitive. Take for example a transaction, it would normally require our names, e-mails, phone numbers and addresses. As if that is not enough, what is more prone to abuse is when we also have to send passwords, credit card numbers and PINs over the internet.

It is inescapable to think of internet as a technology that changed our ways of life and the way we see things in extraordinarily amazing ways. Not only that things are made very simple, but also that impossible things has become possible and even more preferred, in how we do businesses and deal with things. These things happen literally anywhere, just by connecting to the internet.

Nevertheless, as all those facilities arise, so are security issues. Private data are getting more general to be sent on the internet, and they become very subject to abuse unless we do something to protect them.

Let’s take a look at these points below,Check out these points, we definitely don’t want any of them to get abused, right?

  1. Social Security numbers
  2. Credit card numbers
  3. Sensitive names and addresses
  4. Bank account information
  5. Personal details

This is where encrypting data comes in handy. As a matter of fact, it is essential.

Data encryption is done on various forms and with various level of securities. Only those with the key can access the encrypted data and make use of them. Although a hack can be done on them, high security levels of encryption would take up an absurd amount of time to crack. A million years time with a hundreds of thousands times the computing power of today’s computer is just impossible. Furthermore, in addition to data encryption, the protection of an antivirus is also needed.
